Strategic Planning:

Volunteer fire departments are run by good, hard working people. People that are committed to their community and the people that live there. These leaders often have years of training and experience running emergency scenes.

However, we have found that many of these fire service leaders just don’t have the time, the skills, or both to manage the “business” side of the department. It takes a great deal of time and a special skill set to conduct an organizational SWOT analysis, interpret the results, communicate those results in a written report, and develop a strategic plan that will guide the organization into the future.

We have decades of experience conducting SWOT analysis and strategic plans. We work side-by-side with the organizational leaders, community leaders, and private stakeholders to develop an accurate picture of the organization’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats so that a strategic plan can be developed that has SMART goals that will assure the long-term success of the organization and the safety of the community.

We accomplish this by working with you, by listening to you, and by being a partner that is invested in your future.

Volunteer Recruitment:

The number of volunteers in the fire service has steadily declined over the past decade and we predict it is going to reach a significant tipping point by 2030.

Alan has researched volunteerism in the fire service for over two decades. His work has been published in national trade magazines and he’s delivered presentations to a variety of local, state, regional, national conferences such as FDIC in Indianapolis.

For a recruitment program to be successful it must address what we refer to as the 3 R’s –Recruitment, Retention, and Replacement. We have decades of experience and a proven track record in designing, implementing, and managing programs that incorporate the 3 R’s.

If your organization is struggling with attendance at training, getting the trucks out the door, or just can’t seem to attract new people, then maybe it’s time to try something new.

Risk Management:

Fire Chief’s often get skittish when we are asked to review a department’s operations. It’s natural, no one likes a stranger poking around their business, telling them how to run it. After all, many of these Fire Chief’s have been running their department for many years and never had a problem.

No worries, we are not here to tell anyone how to run anything, that’s not how we work!

We understand risk management and we understand fire operations. Everyone has the interests of the community at heart. But no one’s interests are served if a fire department’s operations are too “loose” or if a town, village, or city’s policies are too stringent. In fact, many believe a policy that cannot or will not be followed places the town, village, or city at greater risk than not having a policy at all.

Our risk management services are very flexible and can be tailored to your needs. We can look at a specific area within your department such as its standard operating guidelines and policies or we can look at several areas of the department’s operations such as training, equipment, response profiles, safety program and more.

It is difficult to see the forest from the trees when you’re in the thick of things, so email us at contact@xtremefd.com to schedule a FREE consultation.
